For my developmental work I chose to focus on the mental illness Obsessive Compulsive disorder. This is where the sufferer will have a compulsive thought and then repeat a behaviour (compulsion) to temporarily stop these thoughts. I chose to show someone who has the obsessive thoughts of failure, this is signified by the volume of paper surrounding the model's feet.
I think this photo is effective as the paper is noticeable but at the same time looks natural within the photograph, this could be inferred that sufferers of OCD may look 'normal' from the outside however they stray from social norms due to their condition. I also like the lighting of this photograph as the model was back lit, I felt that this highlighted her and allowed her to stand out against the backdrop. I also thought the paper was effective as a way of depicting OCD, the paper shows the lack of control over actions and thoughts.
I used a long exposure on this photograph which create a blur over the model, I thought this was effective as it shows how a sufferer of OCD has a lack of control over their thoughts and then try to gain control through their obsessions. The blur over the model is effective as it suggests how sufferer of OCD uses their compulsions as a type of escapism from their obsessive thoughts.
