First I took photos in the studio where I flashed the studio lighting to create movement across the photos, where you can see the model, this was effective at showing how someone with bipolar switches moods frequently. This is shown visibly as you can see the model moving from one side of the photograph to the next.
When I continued the photographs, I used a portable flash which was less effective at showing the movement of the model however there is a trace of them which works well as it adds a sense of mystery which is true of many mental illnesses including bipolar as people are unsure about what happens to sufferers therefore stigma occurs. The torch I used for the second set was also less effective as it was less powerful so created a less prominent effect.
I think this set of photos is effective as the contrasting words show how different the two sides of bipolar disorder are and how someone who has it seem to have two different personalities. The words could also be used to describe how a sufferer of other mental illnesses may feel therefore I am going to use this idea for my final piece. However I am going to slightly change it so the words are adjectives about someone who has a mental illness, showing the stigma that exists in society today.
